Serpent-Dragon on a Wall

Lines curve and undulate.
From the feathered spray
can did the Serpent-dragon come
to dwell on concrete
wall of the freeway

Terrible beauty shown
in the flat black
of the Serpent-dragon.
It was the unique beauty
that enchanted said
golden-framed innocence
pressed to the glass
eager for a glimpse
of this quickly gone dragon
as the great horsepowered,
white truck speed
her away.
Of the dark side
of the serpent
the child knew not.

It's fierce silence
proclaims the blood oath
of warrior-thugs sworn
to the sacrifice.
Six-inch bladed fangs
slice deep into enemy
invaders turf
the blood screams

Journey to Buttermere

Gaze upon my valleys and lakes
and in you shall awake
the desire to roam
in the fields below.
Gather your walking
stick, abandon
your shoes and let
the land caress your
bare sole.

Memory of Las Mariposas

Free flight spirals down
from the garden in the sky,
down to perch upon a closed bud.
Threatening clouds seize the Caribbean blue.
Upon this soil, shadow rule and silence speaks.
Wings, once spread to gather the sun,
close now.

El Jefe sits upon a throne
of bent spines and thousands of buried skulls.
The dead have no voice yet they scream.
Freedom crying, she rattles the chains.

Born in pain, comes quiet resolve.
Stirred by a single flutter of wingbeat,
it whispers

To choke the fetal murmerings
an apple of intimidation is offered.
The seductive Viper squeezes,
"What if I send my subjects to conquer

Took 4th place in the Upside Down Challenge. There is a story about the pears - I spent about 8 minutes looking through the supermarket bins for two pears with contoured shapes that would 'fit' together in a yin/yang configuration. Plus they had to have an interesting patchy skin coloration rather than a flat brown.
