Brilliancy: A game that contains a very deep strategic concept, a beautiful combination or an original plan. Such things can be found in nature.

Brilliancy is an actual chess term.

Yes the chess pieces in the forefront could be sharper but this is an old 35 mm camera and it has it's limitations...especially since the main focus is the white queen and the black king "pieces".

If one ever wishes to work with a live dragonfly and/or butterfly, you must have an infinate amount of patience. This is two photos stitched together. One photo had the butterfly in it and it took more than 15 tries to get it to stay on the white queen. The other photo was of the dragonfly on the black king and it took about 20 tries before the darn thing would sit and not fly off. Trying to get them to sit together in one photo was just not going to be possible. They really are horrible models, for they do not listen to instructions;-)

This is a beautiful photo. Thanks. I would like to share it on my blog on SU but it says it's too big... do you know how I can make it smaller? Thanks.

This shot is incredible! The fuzziness is a bit frustrating, but I can understand the desire for fast shutter speeds and low apertures in this situation. The composition in this is fantastic - I really don't know what else to say. Your infinite patience paid off.

Thank you for the compliment and :+fav: Yes, the depth of field could be better with things in the foreground in focus more...and because of that (and that I was not able to show the beautiful mosiac work on the chess board) I have been toying with going back and attempting to redo this shot, but the very thought of having to deal with NOT JUST getting the butterfly to co-operate but also the dragonfly is what has made me think better of it.

... did you bribe them with sugarwater?

:D

... honestly though, what a great concept... your patience obviously paid off to get such a dynamic vision on film... makes my heart swell when I look at this...

Wow, this is a most brilliant piece...the butterfly and the dragonfly make a nice addition to the chess set and add their own symbolism to the game...the butterfly as the beautiful, colorful and delicate being, and the dragonfly as this reminder of times when bold and ferocious being were at large.
All thumbs up for the idea and for the flawless and magnificent photo!
